The discovery of Kom el Shoqafa is a tale of serendipity and intrigue. Lurching forward, a donkey belonging to a local farmer stumbled and fell through a hole in the earth, just east of the southeastern edge of the ancient city of Alexandria, as if it were plowing a field.
