Our first stop will be the Northernmost Mortuary Temple on the West Bank, Seti I’s Temple of a Million Years. Although building work commenced during Seti I’s reign, is was completed by his son, Ramesses II.
There is a range of deities honoured here, but the Theban triad of Amon, Mut, and Khonsu is the most important, each having a barque shrine. There is also a shrine dedicated to Seti's father Ramesses I.
Next, in your Luxor day tours we will visit the house of Howard Carter the who discovered the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The house has been restored, and you can wander through the rooms and see the furniture, equipment, and household items that Carter used whilst in Egypt. Carters original desk, library, and items related to the excavation of the pharaoh's tomb are also on display.
Finally, we visit the mortuary temple of the Pharaoh Merenptah who was Ramesses II thirteenth son and his successor. The temple structure was a typical New Kingdom mortuary temple similar to his grandfather’s Seti I and Ramesses II, Ramesseum. Although little remains of the structure, a miniature sacred lake can still be seen and many well-preserved blocks, wall fragments, and other blocks are displayed within the complex. The complex houses a small museum in the magazines with many interesting artefacts, including part of a colossal limestone sphinx and jackal-headed sphinxes.
